Wrapping Up Summer with a Trip to Gangneung! 🌊

Hello everyone! It’s Korean Language Village!

Summer season 2026 is almost over, and after an extremely hot summer, we decided to have some fun and wrap up the season with a fun trip to Gangneung (강릉) with our Korean and international friends from the language exchange community!

Gangneung is a go-to spot for a beach getaway in Korea, so we made up our minds pretty quickly. Especially when you can spend the day swimming in the sea and enjoying delicious seafood! Who would say no, right?!

Our journey started early Saturday morning, with rain falling as we set off and a couple of stops to pick up all our friends (Spoiler alert! We got a bit lost in Seoul hahaha, but that’s another story). The journey took us almost three hours! To make the journey more fun, we played Telestrations along the way! It was really fun trying to guess which words were hidden behind the pictures! We also had a chance to learn new words in both English and Korean. (Someone even took a nap along the way hahaha.)

We grabbed a quick lunch at Jungang Market and tried some popular local dishes! Of course, we also had to try 회 (sliced raw fish)! The owner of the restaurant was really kind to us. Not only did they give us a small present, but they also kindly let us sit under the roof when it started raining!

After lunch, we finally made it to the beach, where the real fun began! From teaching each other to swim to playing games in the water and having little swimming competitions, we had so much fun! Our water-cannon float definitely caught the attention of other people at the beach who were making the most of the last days of summer hahaha. We had water fights, met some new Korean friends, and enjoyed the day as much as we could! Even the sudden rain couldn’t spoil the fun! We packed up and left with wide smiles on our faces!

And we still had one more stop! We ended the day with dinner at a lovely seafood restaurant by the beach, where we enjoyed delicious abalone, shellfish, meat, and other delicacies. Some of our friends had never tried these seafood dishes before, so they learned how to enjoy them the Korean way and were amazed by the flavours! Everything was absolutely delicious!

After such a filling dinner, we started our journey back to Seoul. The ride back was nice and quiet, as everyone was happily tired and full after the day’s adventures! It was the perfect way to end the summer of 2026: making new friends, gaining new experiences, and creating unforgettable memories together!
